Clapotis 2.0 in carbon fiber

Not because the first is completely worn out, but it's not every day you get the chance to get your hands on kayaks like this. Johan L has worked with slightly cooler material this time; carbon fiber mostly. Otherwise, it is similar to version 1.0, but a slightly better color with slightly darker orange tires. Then a little more black and with carbon fiber so it is completely black inside and so black carbon fiber hatches.

A little unusual with black hatches, but you should probably get used to it

The weight ended up at 16,7 kilos in total, which is quite a big difference compared to them 22 as the old one weighed (maybe 23 now with some fixes).

So far only tried it briefly, but it certainly feels, both on land and on the water, that it is much lighter. Let's hope that I will be as happy with it as the old one, there are a lot of reasons for that.

But what am I going to nag Johan about now 😉 Surf kayak perhaps?

Plenty of deck fittings, deck lines, coordinates and stuff ;-)

The footrest is still a substantial center-mounted support and very easy to adjust, but without a built-in pump. Although it's the same rail, so it's just a matter of plugging in the foot pump support and fixing a hole if necessary. The cockpit is very similar, but the wings have changed slightly so it is easier/more comfortable to switch from having the legs in the middle to the side and sit more comfortably if you need to sit frog for a long time.

  1. Nice!
The only thing I'm a little curious about is whether it's not on the verge of being a little too easy almost...? If you look at commercial builds, both competition and regular sea kayaks, you usually have access to vacuum and distance material to get down to the same class. And mix in Kevlar in the fabric to keep it from being too brittle.
But it's probably really fun to paddle, which is the most important thing! After all, you have a number of other kayaks to use if it is necessary to go in and mess around among the rocks..

  2. No, I also suspect that Johan has a pretty good grasp of what he is doing. Would probably have enjoyed myself with that weight, but on the other hand, I paddle in between (or on..) the rocks as often as you do..

  3. Want! Imagine if you had room for another kayak;-)
The net didn't look stupid either, what's the easiest way to get one like that?

    • You can rent your own container Janne 😉
The nets are great. The easiest is probably to buy ready-made, available from many kayak dealers. The disadvantage of many ready-made ones is that they are such large stitches that small things fall out.
But check with Johan, he has a handle on the fine-meshed nets.

  4. Ok, I'll check with Johan! Do you know how the ice is at GKF? We were outside GKF on Tuesday and then we got a little inside the Pålverket and GKF's piers are ice-free, so it can't be far away! Or what do you think?

  5. heard something about there being some ice this week, but not more precise. Expecting you to report ice properly 😉 Starting to feel urgent with Valö and/or tent trip soon.

  6. That cockpit opening looks very nice as does the whole canoe.

How stiff is the hull? As a PET bottle or as a regular fiberglass kayak.

  7. I think it is very nice, I think I will be satisfied with this one too. Maybe I'll grind off a couple of millimeters of the wings, but we'll see when I've paddled it a little more.
The hull is more like regular fiberglass than pet is my assessment.
