Meandering through the city. Höja-Skälderviken: 15km.
Rönneå meanders from Västra Ringsjön, via Klippan, down to the sea in Skälderviken at Ängelholm. The stretch offers mostly calm and cozy paddling, but there are some smaller rapids and some lifts.
A nice day trip on Rönneå can be paddling from Höja or Starby just east of Ängelholm, through Ängelholm and down to the harbor in Skälderviken. If you're content with medstream paddling, you solve transport back by bike, cars, taxi, walk, otherwise it's just paddling back and forth 🙂 A stretch without lifts and rapids that suits everyone.
You put in wide Raise bridge just east of Ängeholm and the paddling starts in a fairly open agricultural landscape. If there is a lot of water, you can see over the edge and if it is early spring, you can sometimes almost paddle into the yards of some farms. If you want to paddle a couple of kilometers more, it's good to put in at the bridges in Starby. At Höja there is a jetty, dass and two windbreaks. At Starby only barbecue area.
Along the river it is leafy and the trees hang a good distance over the river. If you're lucky, you may see kingfishers and starlings at the water's edge. Shortly after you cross the motorway, Ängelholm starts to make itself known and the first houses appear, and so also the Gåsahalsen colony area where a first coffee break may be appropriate. The river really winds its way through the town and under several bridges.
Just after the hospital there are several docks suitable for the next break. Then you're right in the center and maybe it's time to go ashore and buy an ice cream or have lunch? Soon the local community park is passed and opposite is the Rowing & Canoeing Club and then the outer areas to finish down in Skälderviken's harbour. Just before the harbor there is a nice rest area with shelter from the wind and benches. In this area there are often fishermen, but everyone can easily fit. At the end of the harbour, just before the river turns out between the pier arms, there are jetties, kayak jetties at ACE. Go round, not brutal wilderness but a nice ride through a cozy little town.
If there are reasonable winds, there is certainly time for a turn out between the pier arms out to sea! Skälderviken offers fantastic sandy beaches.
