We have each had an Exped Downmat 7 for quite a few years now. Thick and well-insulated sleeping pads with down filling. The thickness evens out most irregularities and softens the hardest surfaces. Works perfectly for both good tent surfing and many hours of sleeping bag fun 😉 You lie comfortably and the down filling insulates really well against the ground cold. We have the ones with a built-in pump. If you let the underlay and the pump lie and fluff up for a while, it is reasonably quick to pump up your underlay. If you start pumping immediately after compression, it can be quite tough to get them inflated. If we were to buy new ones today, we would probably invest in newer ones without a built-in pump (UL) that you can once again inflate with a packing bag. Without a pump, there is a little less that can break (we have had something break at the pump when you roll them up) and they will be smaller and lighter as well.

We have the size M, which is approximately 180x51cm and seven cm thick, we think that is enough. If you spin a lot, are bigger or are out when it's really cold, you might want bigger and thicker ones, but for most people M is probably enough. Yes, maybe even S in many cases.

Sleeping well is always right and nice sleeping mat in combination with go sleeping bag does the job well.

Now we're rarely out when it's really cold, so a regular Synmat 7 would probably have gone a long way in terms of insulation and the comfort is otherwise the same.

Both Downmat and Synmat can allow themselves to make a little noise when lying on the tent floor, at least Hilleberg's, nothing that disturbed our sleep directly but some neighbors' 😉

  1. Fully agree with your reviews of Downmat 7. Now Exped also has
a Schnoozel that makes it easy to pump up the mattress with a connection between their packing bags with a valve for SEK 135, or their Pumpbag variant which is more expensive. Outnorth sells both. Make using the mattress an even greater pleasure!
