Most people who have built a kayak, thought about building a kayak or who have a friend, relative, friend on social media who has built a kayak have probably been to Björn Thomasson's website.

Björn came out with the Kanotboken in 1997, which is described as follows:

"Instructive and easy-to-understand handbook in the art of building beautiful and seaworthy wooden canoes - with complete drawings and construction instructions for a Canadian and a sea kayak."

Since then, Björn has developed his construction technology and produced a variety of canoe models both for home builders but also quite a few for commercial operators. In addition to kayaks of all possible sizes and models, there are Canadians and surf skis as well as the occasional smaller boat. Björn is behind the popular models Black Pearl, Frej & Kavat to name a few.

Björn's site contains most things in paddling. The construction is only part of the site, you can find a lot about paddling technique, long distance travel, seamanship and so on. Yes, most things that involve some form of paddling simply. Plus a bit about general nightlife. Simply comprehensive 🙂 In addition to the aforementioned Canoe Book, Björn has a number of booklets (that is, those on paper) about Paddling Technique, Seamanship, Long-distance travel and, of course, building manuals. When we built kayaks we thought the building manual worked fine but assume it has developed a lot over the years.

In recent years, the news flow has mostly been about new builders of Björn's models and less about the paddling excursions. A bit of a shame, it's always fun to read about kayaking trips, but most things go in waves.

In addition to writing on the site, Björn gives a lot of lectures and teaches a lot in paddling and role playing with a Greenland paddle.
